In order to check machine movements, that the machine tool is in level and that the machine bed is not subject to roll/pitch, a two-sensor solution is required: one sensor that reads the measurement and one reference sensor. In order to measure the machine bed have roll/pitch during motion, you fit the M-sensor to the tool holder and carry out a measurement reading. Use the reference sensor in order to compensate for any motion in the machine’s base during measurement.

In this way, you can measure straightness by determine the angle deviation in relation to the machine’s base. Both machine tool measuring sensors can easily be mounted to the machine using the fixtures supplied.

Meax SR201 and SM201 serve as multifunctional sensors. They both have an integrated laser transmitter, a 2-axis PSD detector and a high-resolution inclinometer to record the angle of rotation. The sensors are used for a variety of types of measurements such as straightness, squareness, spindle direction, and coaxiality.

The SR unit (marked R) is fitted to the part of the machine which forms a reference, and the SM sensor (marked M) is fitted to the machine axis that is to be measured.

The Meax SR and the SM sensors have wireless communication via Bluetooth which allows them to be installed in the machine and perform measurements with the machine doors closed. Measuring sensors also have a pre-set laser transmitter, which means that they do not need to be aligned when installed in the machine. This allows for the quick set-up of a machine as well as providing more reliable measurement results as there are no moving parts or laser alignment inside the measuring sensors which will impact measurement accuracy. Measuring sensors have built-in rechargeable batteries that allow an operating time of up to 10 hours.


The Meax SR and SM measuring sensors can be mounted in a number of ways using flexible attachments and fixtures that come with the system. Mounting holes and reference surfaces make it possible to manufacture your own mounts if necessary.

Both machine tool measuring sensors come fitted with batteries sufficient for 12 hours’ operation. After a completed measurement task, recharging is carried out using the USB charger supplied. Each sensor is also fitted with our unique battery checker, which displays the battery level at the press of a button without activating the sensors or tablet.
The sensors’ square shape has been specially adapted to fit into machines, and the turquoise colour enables them to be easily seen in industrial environment.
MEAX Level is also IP65-classed, giving a significant level of protection against liquids and dust.
